You’ll never start.

Everyone wants the things they do to go well. You put your heart into a project. Naturally, you want it to go well. It means the world to you. I psych myself out though. I want something so bad that I plan and plan and plan until I’m paralyzed. I want to start a blog? I have to get the perfect social media handles. Should I go @d4nfitz or @itsdanfitz? I need an amazing domain name too. Ugh, the one I wanted isn’t available. What about the website design? Ugh, I’m not sure about that font or the placement of that title. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Now it’s been 2 days, and I haven’t even posted anything yet. A blog without any content. The more that you prepare before you start, the more that worries you. Suddenly, a simple desire becomes a behemoth of expectations. Just start; worry about the details as you go.
You’ll feel alone.

True human-to-human connection is about baring the bad with another person just as much as it is about baring the good. Perfectionism is a packaged version of yourself, all the good without the bad. If you’re really good at packaging yourself (popular people, especially celebrities, are the best), you’ll get applause and become an object of envy for a lot of people. But at night, when you think about all your insecurities and start to get scared or go numb, you’ll feel that hole in your heart. “People don’t really know me. I have nobody.” You’re just as much your flaws as you are your strengths. Share those flaws; you have to if you want to feel love.
This is an ever-growing list. I’ll add more as more ideas come up.
